NEW WATER SUPPLY FACTORY

The session held by the City Council in Banja Luka on March 4, 2002 made a decision, proposed by the "Vodovod" a.d. Banja Luka, to build a new water-supply factory "Novoselija 2". The new water-supply factory will be built next to the already existing one in Novoselija, which is 6 km upstream the city.

The results of long-term studies, concerning water quality parameters, show that water taken from the river Vrbas can be placed in the second class according to its quality. With appropriate treatment this water could be convenient resource for the drinking water production.

The choice for a new water factory location was determined by everything stated above and the fact that we reserved space for the new water factory when we were building the existing one in 1977, together with the plans for its extension. Property-legislative relations have been solved even then. Some of the second unit facilities were finished at that time also, for instance: water intake, supply pipe-line network, water tower, chemistry building, power supply building, laboratory, management building.

We have been preparing projects, investments and technical designs, tender documentation, auctions, contractors and equipment selection, that is, all the activities anticipated the plan for building the second phase of the water-supply factory.

Construction works for the second phase of the water-supply factory began on July 29, 2004 by building the filter room and clean water reservoir with capacity of 7 500 m3.

The filter room and clean water reservoir were set into place on April 29, 2007. Expanding the reservoir space up to 10 000 m3 and the capability of direct filtration for the longest period of a year provide sufficient water quantities for next 15 - 20 years.

"Vodovod" provided conditions for further construction works on water supply facilities (reservoirs, pumping stations and distribution network) where it is necessary, that is in the areas of Tunjice, Karanovac, higher zones of Kočićev vijenac,Paprikovac and Česma.

So far the investments, provided by "Vodovod" SC Banja Luka, the City of Banja Luka, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Resources Management and the World Bank credit, reached the amount of 8 978 047,90 KM.

Construction works continue and they will depend on available financial means.
